this monday, i caught the zappa plays zappa show at the berkeley community theater up in norcal. it was awesome! dweezil was accompanied by ray white, and they played for about 3 hours. the performance was supplemented with videos featuring frank, in a very nat king/natalie cole sort of interaction. it was powerful to watch dweezil turn and play with his father. although the videos highlighted the difference between the two men. every time i see frank wail out a solo, he seems to get lost in it. i only got that feeling from dweezil 2, maybe 3, times, on tracks like carolina hardcore ecstasy and pygmy twylyte. but overall, the show felt great, the crowd was a mix of ages, all of which were excited to be there. thanks to dug for the tickets and his tommy-two-thumbs set list.
NOTE: before the show, we were watching meerkat manor, an anthropomorphized soap opera featuring meerkats in the kalahari on animal planet. the main troop (whiskers) encountered a rival troop known as the zappa, whose dominant male is named frank. it was delightfully perfect!

I think Dave Dean is doing Tiesto for new year’s. I saw boxes of those flyers in the hallway somewhere near guest parking and he’s the only one I can imagine doing that.

hello charisse!
somehow the offices of the Earth Coincidence Control Office (ECCO) arranged to have me trip cross your site. sure like the way your head works, and like the way your tummy sports MIT flavor.
actually a search engine brought me here via “zappa”, “murakami”, “media”, et al. i’m goofy for reading lists, saw yours.
so here’s some books for you to try, though i know you’re mad busy and all…
speaking of john lily (he of ECCO), his “center of the cyclone”, about his experiences living in a k-hole, is pretty damn good stuff.
speaking of ECCO, you like eco? sometimes too confusing for my attention span. you ever read stanislaw lem? he makes interesting (if allusive) insghts into the way media influences consciousnesses.
speaking of murakami, i am a hikikomori! (the boston-based, anglo kind) i am an artist on top-secret mission, to hide my hi-low art from all greedy eyes. smoother pebbles for cleaner minds.
ok, don’t mind the hypoglycemic babble, gotta go, hope you wear a helmet when you cycle!
oh yeah, some funny lalaland tv for ya, as long as you’re stranded out there:
